According to the GB/T23257-2009 technical standard for polyethylene anticorrosion layers of buried steel pipelines, 2PE pipeline anticorrosion hot melt adhesive/3PE anticorrosion adhesive process is selected for corrosion protection of oil, gas, and chemical pipelines.
 
Two-layer polyethylene anticorrosion consists of a bottom adhesive, commonly known as hot melt adhesive, and a surface polyethylene. Three-layer polyethylene anticorrosion tape consists of a bottom layer of fused epoxy powder, a middle layer of adhesive, and an outer layer of special polyethylene material. Both anticorrosion processes use adhesives. Maleic anhydride grafted copolymer adhesives (copolymer base adhesive) can be used. When performing 2PE anticorrosion on pipelines, using adhesives made of thermoplastic elastomer and butyl rubber (jacket base adhesive) is more reliable.
